Article Marketing and the Duplicate Content Debate

There is a lot of confusion out there about the ‘duplicate content’ trap that may (or may not) cause problems in our article marketing efforts.

If you are not already doing so, you need to be writing (or hiring someone else to write) articles that are useful, informational and helpful about network marketing, your company and the products. Use the resource box (sometimes called the bio box)to insert links to your blog, lead capture pages or affiliate pages.

There is a lot of debate currently about duplicate content. Google and the other major search engines are actively seeking out duplicate content and blocking it altogether. Some experts say that you should only post an article one time and then completely re-work it before submitting it elsewhere. Just today, however, I heard another explanation from Sam Johnson of ‘Authority Site Center’. (Sam Johnson and Jack Humphrey are WordPress blogging experts) Sam’s opinion is that you need not worry about a couple of identical articles here and there; he believes that this would not ever be enough for Google to send you off to ‘duplicate content jail’. He indicated that duplicate content only becomes a problem if you have hundreds of copies of the exact same article spread all over the Internet. This can be the case if you are using PLR (private label rights) articles. He suggested that you change about 30% of the content, if you have concerns. This doesn’t really take that long to do…it just takes the discipline to do it.

Hope this helps to put your mind at ease. It certainly did make me rest easier.
